As things fall apart, misplaced priorities take centre stage

Seeing what is unfolding in this country in terms of corruption is truly disheartening. Though I pray for our leaders and Kenya and I’m proud to be a Kenyan, there are moments I hit rock bottom, such as this time.
How, good people, can a country live on corruption day in day out? The men and women who were elected, where are you? What is going on, really; what is going on?

People are dying of hunger; did our leaders see children eating raw pawpaw boiled, did they? Did they see those malnourished children in northern Kenya? Aren’t there people who can provide alternative leadership?

The Government says it has no systems to distribute food. Why can’t it seek help from religious organisations, including the madrassas? Why give contracts to supply food — a basic right — to corrupt, inept, callous people?

Do leaders always have to get a “cut” even from the blood of fellow countrymen? May the Almighty God punish those of us who have oppressed poor people.

I now understand the story of King Saul in the Bible. I now believe God has rejected Saul and anointed David. Wherever David is, I know we cannot see you but I know you are there. Kenyans have suffered enough.

There is the maize scandal, oil scandal, tourism scandal and many more that the media is sparing hungry Kenyans from hearing all at a go.

And there is no need to pretend that commissions of inquiry will help. And the leaders? Tax evaders!
