Sammy Kurui breaks 15 year old record

Bararunners dominated Friday’s “Kraftprove” race at Trollhättan with Sammy Kurui breaking the 15-year-old track record by several seconds. The old record (34.03) from 1995 was held by Tanzania’s Ergobert Robert Naali.

According to one of the reporters at the finishing line, “first came two Kenyans, then several other Kenyans and then nobody came. After a long break, a Spanish crossed the line then finally a few Swedes and a couple of Norwegians.”

The three fastest athletes at this competition were members of Barakarunner organisation. Sammy Kurui finished at 33,43 followed by John Sampol at the 11.6 km tough race that attracted 1803 athletes. John took the second position only 0,8 seconds behind Sammy.

Sharon Kipsang won the silver position in the women’s race while Nelly Jepkosgei came 3rd. in her long distance race debut. Nelly and Sharon are also members of the Barakarunner organisation.
