A single shot started the spree of blodshed that left at least ten people dead when a police officer took the law in his hands. The said police officer first shot and killed his two colleagues at a bar in Siakago (Northeast of Nairobi) where the deceased are reported to have been drinking together with the officer's girlfriend. He then moved to three other bars and shot at patrons leaving at least eight people dead. After the ordeal, the officer surrendered himself to the police without further drama.

The officer who was assigned to guard the residence of the local district commissioner in Kenya’s Eastern Province town of Siakago is said to have gone on the rampage on Saturday midnight after failing to locate his girlfriend.

According to the Eastern Provincial police commander, Marcus Ochola, "He went looking for his girlfriend in the bars where he shot patrons indiscriminately," .

"The DC came home at 10:00 p.m., and after one hour, the police officer assigned to his home left saying he wanted to see his girlfriend. He went to three bars that were open and shot 10 people when he failed to locate her. He also forced some bars that were closed to open," said Ochola.

He also "shot at his fellow police officers who were responding to the sound of gunfire and commotion in the town. When he exhausted his ammunition, he surrendered at the Siakago police station," added Ochola.
