KiN Reports from Jakob Kulturkirken - Oslo
The live concert by Suzanna Owiyo at Jakob Kulturkirken in Oslo was true to it's theme, "My Roots". She took the audience through a musical journey touching on a myriad of topics ranging from money, love, respect, misuse of alcohol, depencende and sheer pleasure only to list a few. The audience experienced the traditional Kenyan instruments including the nyatiti (eight stringed) and orutu (one string) live on stage. The lyrics and the accompanying beats triggered a dancing momentum in the audience that saw the floor getting filled as ravellers danced and sang along to tunes like Kisumu Ber, Sandore, Anyango and the hit song Idhe Wa Kamande.
Suzanna has an amazing stage presence and engages her audience in a manner that leaves ravellers wanting to listen and see her perfom continuously. She plays the nyatiti with perfection and blends that traditionally male dominated instrument with accoustic guitar and orutu to create a modern fusion of her tunes. Several guests presented their satisfaction to our reportes with sentences like "Thumbs up to Suzanna for breaking through with nyatiti and Orutu, two very special Kenyan instruments producing great music!"
After the concert, the management and promoters of Suzanna invited the audience to a relaxed and informal get together for a chat, food, drinks, photo session and signing of Suzanna's newly released CD "My Roots" (Produced by Norway's KKV).
The concert was the last leg of the just concluded Euro tour that saw Suzanna perform together with Youssou Ndour in Copenhagen, Paris, Stockholm and London among other venues.
Suzanna and her band left for Kenya early this morning. Great thanks to the organizers of the concert, Kirkelig Kulturverksted, JPV Promotions and the jovial audience present at Jakob Kulturkirken.
