Sixty-nine people have reportedly lost their lives and over 175 injured following the Saturday mid morning terrorist attack in Nairobi.
An explosion, heavy bursts of fire and gunfire have been reported at the Westgate shopping mall this Monday morning. The 10-15 assailants are believed to be holding an unknown number of hostages. A united Kenya Defence Force (KDF) are working round the clock with the operation which has now entered a very critical point but which they say is soon being conluded.
The militants now believed to be from the Somali al-Shabaab group are still holed up at the mall where KDF have reported that "all efforts are under way to bring this matter to a speedy conclusion."
According to Defence spokesman Col Cysrus Oguna, only a small number of hostages were still being held at the mall. The civilians are either taken hostage or are hiding in the building for their safety as they wait for the rescue team.
