Norway's New Government from 16th. October 2013

The leader of Norway Conservative Party (H) Erna Solberg finally took office as Norway's Prime Minister following the September just concluded parliamentary elections.

The formal transfer of power and presentation of the new government took place at the Royal Palace after the outgoing Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg (A) had formerly presented his formal vaccation notice to the King. The new government has 17 minsters and is led by Erna Solberg and the leader of the Progress Party Siv Jensen (FrP).

The full list of ministers in the new non-sosialist minority coalition government:

FINANCE MINISTER: Siv Jensen (FrP)
Member of Parliament since 1997, leader of the Progress Party since 2006.

FOREIGN MINISTER: Børge Brende of the Conservatives.
Recently serving as a top official at the World Economic Forum in Geneva. Former Secretary General of the Norwegian Red Cross and Member of Parliament for the Conservatives from 1997 to 2009, Minister for environment and Trade minister between 2001 to 2005.

JUSTICE MINISTER: Anders Anundsen of the Progress Party.
Lawyer and former Chairman of parliament’s disciplinary committee. He has been a Member of Parliament for the Progress Party since 2005.

DEFENSE MINISTER: Ine Marie Eriksen Søreide of the Conservatives.
37 years old, educated lawyer from Lørenskog in Akershus County, just outside Oslo. She has been a Member of Parliament for the Conservatives since 2001.

TRANSPORT MINISTER: Ketil Solvik-Olsen of the Progress Party.
Ketil has a Master's degree in economics from University of Toledo (USA). The 41 year old is the Deputy leader of the party with a broad experience in Parliament. He’s 41 years old, from Rogaland County in western Norway. He has represented the Progress Party in Parliament since 2005.

MUNICIPALITIES & MODERNIZATION MINISTER: Jan Tore Sanner of the Conservatives. The 48 year old Jan is the leader of the Conservatives party and has been a Member of Parliament since 1989.

OIL & ENERGY MINISTER: Tord Lien of the Progress Party.
Member of Parliament for the Progress Party since 2005. Lien, age 38, is a graduate of the country’s leading technical university (NTNU) in Trondheim and has been director of community and information for TrønderEnergi.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION MINISTER: Kristine (Tine) Sundtoft of the Conservatives.
Aged 46, Kristine is from Lillesand, southern Norway. A seasoned politician with several alternate Member of Parliament positions from 1989 to 1993.

CULTURE MINISTER: Thorild Widvey of the Conservatives.
Aged 57, Widvey is back to national politics after earlier serving as Oil & Energy Minister from 2004 to 2005. She is from Oslo.

HEALTH MINISTER: Bent Høie of the Conservatives.
The 42-year-old is deputy leader of the party. Bent headed parliament’s committee on health care since 2009. He is from Stavanger on Norway’s west coast.

EDUCATION MINISTER: Torbjørn Røe Isaksen of the Conservatives.
One of the youngest members of the government, at age 35. He has a master’s degree in political science.

BUSINESS & TRADE MINISTER: Monica Mæland of the Conservatives.
45-year-old lawyer from Bergen.

AGRICULTURE MINISTER: Sylvi Listhaug of the Progress Party.
Aged 35, Sylvi is one of the most controversial appointees of this government due to her ealier aired views about farming.

LABOUR MINISTER: Robert Eriksson of the Progress Party.
Economist and Member of Parliament in 2005, Robert is from Nord-Trøndelag.

FISHERIES MINISTER: Elisabeth Aspaker of the Conservatives.
Aged 51, Elisabeth was born in Harstad, Northern Norway, and has represented Troms County in Parliament since 2005.

CHILDREN, EQUALITY & INTEGRATION MINISTER: Solveig Horne of the Progress Party. The 44 years old former butcher and fresh food businesswoman has represented the Progress Party in parliament since 2005. Solveig is from Rogaland, western Norway.
