Kenya: University Students protests against hiking fees

Most businesses in Nairobi and other parts of the country were affected by the nationwide University students' protests against hiking of fees and lowering of maximum student loans by the Higher Education Loans Board.

Reports from Machakos have it that a stampede this Tuesday morning resulted in the injury of several people when Police and students from Machakos University College clashed.

Student leaders of SONU and other University student organizations had warned travellers and especially those driving cars to work in the main cities with local university colleges to leave their cars at home. This warning came as a sign of taking responsibility and to evade any possible incidents of non students joining the protests and causing damage to property.
