There is visible enormous presence of uiformed and civilian police at most corners of the central business district of Nairobi. This is due to the rally by CORD at Uhuru park which in effect has partly affected the free movement of people in some parts of this great city. Police and officers from the KDF were seen parading the streets of Nairobi and especially the Uhuru park as early as 5am (EAT). Regular and administration police have been joined by the General Service Unit (GSU), National Youth Service and Prison warders in patrolling the streets of Nairobi and keeping vigile.
The security personnel are part of the plan to ensure that the rally is held within the defined park and to thwart any attempts by attendees to cause mayhem during or after the rally. The IG has given a clear timeframe for the rally stating that it is to start at 10am and wind up at exactly 5pm this Monday the 7th of July 2014 - SABA SABA.
Reports reaching our newsroom presented some ugly scenes from Kisumu City where some youths had set bornfires and barricaded highways. However, tension was eased by the police who moved in swiftly and cleared the road blocks. No serious confrontation has been reported from any other towns or cities at the time of going to press apart from short skirmishes at the entrance of Uhuru park between some CORD supporters and the security personell..
