President OBAMA visit to Kenya: The Success of GES 2015 in Nairobi
KiN Newsroom
The US President Barack Obama's visit
to Kenya and the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in Nairobi scheduled for
this weekend has attracted an unprecedented enormous attention to Kenya.
The summit and the visit by the president gives Kenya a rare
opportunity to showcase her best and prepare to count the gains at the end of
the summit.
However, the Obama visit should not be reduced to a simple
"homecoming" tour for one of the most celebrated leaders with
biological links in Kenya. The essence of the meeting should be to open up the
business world to Kenya and vice versa. Kenyans should be ready to reap from
the benefits of the limelight that the visit and GES brings home. The vote of
confidence by the US and the summit despite the challenges that Kenya has should
be capitalized on and be a spring bed for speeding up economic development.
Emphasis should be more on developing local businesses for example
that the Juakali industries get a multi-million upgrading that can make the
industry compete at international levels.
We wish President Obama, GES and Kenya all the best as we
look forward to the positive gains to be made during and after this noble weekend.
