Kenyan 800 metres runner David Rudisha and world indoor high jump champion Blanka Vlasic of Croatia were named IAAF Athletes of the year on Sunday. Rudisha set the only major world record in 2010 when the 21 year old Kenyan athlete eclipsed the 800 metres record at 1.41.01 in Rieti. Rudisha set this record after breking an earlier 13 year old one set by Wilson Kipketer. He ran 1.41.09 in Berlin in August. David won 12 consecutive races of the season.
Vlasic, 27, won 18 of 20 competitions in what she called one of her most challenging seasons.
