Malian soldiers report that they have overthrown the country's President Amadou Toumani Toure after attacking the Capital Bamako Thursday morning. The military declared that the country had been taken over by The National Committee for Redressment of Democracy and Restoration of the State (CNRDR).

Announcing the takeover on Mali's state owned radio and television at 04:40 a.m local time, CNRDR spokesman, Lieutenant Amadou Konare said the country's Constitution had been suspended, all republican institutions had been dissolved and that an inclusive government of national unity will be formed to organize elections as soon as possible. CNRDR also imposed a curfew from 06:00 a.m. local time (Thursday morning) until further notice.
