Several members of the Association of Kenyans in Norway (AKIN) met in Oslo and discussed various issues touching on development, investment, empowerment and cultural events only to mention a few. Attendees were taken on a journey of events that AKIN had been involved in since the Makosir led team took office in September 2011. These included Mashujaa Day celebrations, meeting with Kenya's Prime Minister Hon. Raila Odinga and his delegation in Oslo, meeting with Kenyan MPs and party leaders at the Oslo Center for Peace, meeting with Hon. Martha Karua at Litaraturhuset in Oslo, Jamhuri Day celebrations, funeral arrangements for the late Jeff Mwangi Kwirikia and the AKIN Gala Dinner among others.
The new Vice Chairperson and one new board member were elected through an open, free, fair and democratic election held towards the end of the meeting. The said elections were only open for AKIN members meaning those who at the time of the elections had paid their Kr 250 annual member subscription fee and had been issued with valid AKIN election cards for the event.
The new AKIN Vice Chairperson is Naima Elmi who replaces the former VC Mr. Boni Tetu who had resigned from the post late last year. Elizabeth Syanda was elected to the AKIN board and both members took office with immediate effect.
Before voting, attendees at the meeting got the chance to listen to the contestants including Ira Munyao and Naima Elmi who were vying for the position of Vice Chairperson; Elizabeth Syanda, Anne Karanu, and Getrude Njeri who went for the board member position.
Apart from the two positions, AKIN members joined various working committees that are now in place to help facilitate AKIN activities. The committees already in place include Cultural, Research, Business and Investment plus Information and Research.
