Major Riots in Mombasa after Sheikh Aboud Rogo's death

Mombasa has been hit by fresh riots today after Monday night's stand off between militant supporters of the deceased radical Muslim cleric Sheikh Aboud Rogo and the police. The cleric was reportedly gunned down when assailants in a saloon car hailed bullets at the white Nissan Rogo and his family were travelling in on the Mombasa-Malindi highway this Monday.

Angry supporters of the cleric set up barricades and lit fires in several areas in Majengo, Kisauni, Mackinnon, Makupa, Saba Saba while others battled with the police in Kibokoni and Bondeni where the cleric enjoyed great support.
