The early Thursday 2nd. April morning Garissa University siege lasted almost 16 hours and left at least 147 people dead and several others seriously injured. Kenya's Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery announced that at least four terrorists were killed as security personell battled the terrorists holding students hostage in the hostels.
The attackers reportedly pounded on the campus at around 5:30am Thursday morning killing the two Police officers guarding the gate then proceeded to the students' hostels. They are said to have shot to kill and managed to hold many students hostage for several hours.
Kenya's security forces engaged the gunmenn for several hours and managed to free over 500 hostages as reported by the Interior CS.
A constituent of Moi University, Garissa Campus has for a long time has been a safe institution despite the several earlier terrorist attacks in Garissa.
