KiN Reports
Foreign Affairs Minister, Moses Wetangula has vacated his office due to the Kshs 1.54 billion embassies scandal. On departing his position, Wetangula tendered his innocence stating that "I have taken a personal decision to give room to those who have tormented and haunted me for three to four weeks and the investigating authorities,’’ and accused MPs of staging a vendetta war against him. He further said that there was an unprecedented political witch-hunt and urge to tarnish his reputation. He sees himself as one being crucified for issues that happened before he became minister.
Wetangual follows in the footspets of William Ruto who was suspended from his ministerial position to allow investigators and the courts to deal with his case. The latter is a Kshs 96 million fraud case against the former Higher Education Minister William Ruto and his co-accused. Others named on the same case are businessman Joshua Kulei, Baringo Central MP Sammy Mwaita, Berke Commercial Agencies, Priority Limited, Celtic Multi-Systems Limited and Somog Limited.
Ruto has been charged with fraudulently obtaining Sh96 million from Kenya Pipeline Company, claiming he was in a position to sell them 1.745 hectares of land belonging to the Ministry of Natural Resources situated in Ngong Forest. He allegedly received Sh9.9 million in 2001, a further 57.8 million for the sale of two parcels and another 28 million for a parcel of land in the same forest.
Mr. Kulei faces charges of obtaining Sh58 million from KPC between August 6, and September 6, 2001.
