Congratulations to Barakarunner for representing Kenya in Nigeria race

Barakarunner’s John Sompol clinched the bronze at this year’s Obudu race (held on Satyrday 27th. November 2010) with the time of 42.58 minutes behind Ethiopia’s Abebe Dinkesa (1st. with 42.21) and Haptamu Fikadu Awash (2nd. with 42.47).

John finished 6th. in the 5th. edition of the race in 2009 which was then won by Awash. John has been training hard and preparing for this year’s race which sees him taking home a clean USD 9,000 cash prize. This is a great achievement for Barakarunner and the team behind the organization. The winner of the race takes home USD 50,000, the silver medalist USD 20,000 and the 3rd. position gets USD 9,000.

The Nigerian Obudu International Mountain Race (the highest paying mountain race in the world) was held at the Obudu Plateau (Obudu Ranch Resort in Obudu, Cross River) which is estimated to be at an altitude of 1,576 metres above sea level. The main race covers a distance of 11 Kilometres uphill.
