" Storehesten Up got one of the best runners ever this year". That comment sums up the race at Storehesten last weekend. There were 1404 at the start of the race but one athlete had a special day. John Mnangat Sompol from "Baraka Runner" of Kenya broke the record at the mountain climbing race winning at 1.04.24.

Baraka Runner is a Kenyan/Norwegian organization dedicated to promoting sports, education, entrepreneurship and cultural diversity. John is one of several athletes currently visiting Norway and travelling to various competitions in the country.

Jon Tvedt held the old record that was 1.06.08. By breaking the record, John won both the race and the 20 000 cash for the job well done.

Apart from John, the next five athletes who finished the race after the record time were all Kenyans. It was not until the seventh position that the fastest Norwegian at the race, Mr. Sindre Hoff from Viksdalen crossed the finishing line. Hoff was very happy with the race since he also broke his personal record by one minute.

The best female athlete at the event was Merete Helgheim frå Gloppen who won with a notable time of 1.28.53.
