LOLILO groove at Willy's on Christmas Day

By KiN Entertainement Reporters
Saturday 25th. December 2010 offered nice surprises to party lovers and christmas guests who attended the X-MAS Special show at Willy's Bar in Oslo. The well advertised show started at 20:00 (CET) with guests streaming in from all walks of life. Around 21:00 (CET) the hall was nearly packed with approximately 150 guests. The crew, including Mr. Willy, had lots of work due to the constant flow of guests but all the same, it was easy to admire their service at its best. Willy went from table to table wishing guests merry christmas and enquiring if all was well with them.

Surprise
With a variety of drinks, top service and relatively affordable prices and nice music, Willy's Bar seems to be attracting a majority of Oslo's middleclass with huge wallets. This could be documented within the first two hours of the party with a view of several high-end drinks filling most table tops especially around the VIP corner.

Advertised simply as an X-MAS special, the Saturday night event lived to it's theme with several DJ's spinning all from RnB, Ndombolo, Ragga, Mugithi and Reggae music from all over the world and from a maturely selected variety of artists. As if that was just a starter, the second course was Willy who entered the stage and announced that he was to perform some hits before the disco took off. He performed several songs including Malaika, Njabala, No Woman No Cry, One Love and several popular reggae hits. By the time Willy was departing the stage, the door count had hit 210 and party lovers were still streaming in.

Lolilo from Burundi
The disco was later to begin with both take-over Djs, Vjs and Cjs claiming the musical center stage only to be informed by the organisers that now the real show was to start. Some ravellers wondered why the already hot dance music was to be stopped and thought the organisers were trying to play them dirty. In a twinkle of an eye, Lolilo from Burundi practically flew in and started what was to be one of 2010's best live performances at Willy's Bar. The young talent and his Djs presented a show that shook the night and kept the dance floor packed all night long. 'Tuendelee ama tusiendelee?' was met with 'twende kazi mpaka chee' from a group of dancers who seem to have followed the artist over a long period and were in a true 'karaoke mood' as he performed.
Lolilo perfomed most of his songs including Wivu, Kazi ni Kazi, Mzizi Wa Jiwe, Narababaye, Mimi ni moto, Angel, Baby, Evolution and many more. From the time he entered the stage to the end of his show, Lolilo kept the dancers on toes with a complete mixtape level remix of Swahili, flava and Raggaeton.

Conclusion:
This is the arist to watch in 2011 as producers and promoters including Osulz Productions who hosted Lolilo at Willy's Bar promising to invite the artist for a huge concert sometime later in the year.

New Year's Party
Willy's Bar is inviting all to A 2 Year's Dance Party! starting at 20:00 (CET) on 31.12.2010 to 03:00(CET) on 01.01.2011.

Following is the advert for the event:

....and from the archives, here is Willy performing at BlĂ„, Oslo.

Ocampo Six: Mixed reactions

By Rateng'  (KiN Reporter)
Reactions galore after ICC's Chief Prosecutor Moreno-Ocampo announced the six (PEV) suspects with some claiming that this is a political move while others celebrate the fact that they never appeared on Ocampo's list. Hon. Henry Kosgey tendered his deep shock and wondered why the prosecutor did not give him the opportunity to state his case and respond to allegations targetting him before the release of the list. According to Ocampo, "we are saying these people are the most responsible but there are others who also committed crimes and should face the law".
The bottom line is that these gentlemen are suspects until proven guilty, a reason to tread carefully when commenting the announcements made this Wednesday. Kosgey has stated categorically that he "had nothing to do with the 2008 post election violence" and that he is "innocent of the allegations made".

President Kibaki said "As a nation we must also focus on the need for national healing and reconciliation. This is paramount as we move forward on the path of national peace and unity. I also wish to assure Kenyans that the Government has intensified security around the country. The Government is providing full support to our security forces to enable them perform their duties of protecting the lives of all citizens and their property. I appeal to Kenyans to remain calm. The Government will remain vigilant and ensure that the rights of its citizens and the dignity of the nation are upheld."

Remmy Ongala is Dead

KiN Reports
One of Tanzania's greatest artists Remmy Ongala (popularly known as Doctor) has passed on. Remmy who originally came from Kindu in North Eastern Zaire performed in various bands since the age of sixteen.

In 1978 Remmy travelled to Dar es Salaam where he joined Orchestra Super Makassy and later formed his own band, Super Matimila, named after the local businessman who bought and owned their instruments. He was an unrivalled popular artist in Tanzanian with lyrics touching vast areas of life including attacks on the rulling elite of the country.

Remmy once responded to a question about his music and popularity as follows: "I am successful in Tanzania because I write songs about serious topics ... my music is known as 'ubongo beat', because in Swahili 'ubongo' means brain and my music is heavy thinking music."

Raila's statement on WikiLeaks

1. The current reports of leakage of official American government diplomatic cables now dominating world news are in my view, a deplorable breach of certain aspects of common human decency. The leakages of so-called ‘secrets’ also really belong to the domain of gossip and rumours and therefore do not merit more attention than is really necessary;

2. One would have expected that even with the kind of technological advancements that have made it possible to live and share in a world that is almost seamless, we are all still enjoined to acts of responsibility and restraint even when we have access to certain types of information;

3. One would therefore have hoped that the Wikileaks, in spite of its philosophy and commitment to a world without any government secrets, can weigh and realize the potentially hazardous implications of reckless and unfettered release of information, especially when it has been obtained illegally. To act responsibly in such situations would not in my view, really imply that we do not subscribe to the fundamental rights and freedoms of access to information as are now widely recognized internationally and indeed affirmed in Kenya’s new constitution;

4. I will therefore be the first to admit that the whole saga surrounding these Wikileaks also therefore underlie an incredibly significant development in Human affairs in the world today. In particular, let it be known and appreciated by Kenyans, that in today’s world, all those things that we do under the cover of darkness in the hope that they shall, so remain, unknown as ‘secrets’ must at some point bubble out and be known.;

5. It is also no simple coincidence that these Wikileaks are also coming at a time when we in Kenya are squarely confronted with some of the very untoward secrets of our own national past. The national momentum for reform, is indeed the confirmation that we in Kenya desire a more truthful, honest society that does not need to be haunted by any dark secrets or deeds of the past;

6. Those in our midst who still therefore believe in and persist in the false hope that corruption and other acts committed outside the public purview, must be on the lookout, given that the unprecedented development and explosion of information;

7. I therefore urge fellow Kenyans not to be unduly distracted, let alone believe everything being said or disclosed from these leakages. Instead, there is need for greater circumspection and calm. I urge our patriotic citizens to exercise fair judgment, responsibility and proper analysis in their treatment of whatever information has come, and still may come from Wikileaks.

Kenya's Jamhuri Day Celebrations in Oslo - 2010

KiN Reporter in Stockholm
It is now clear that Kenyans in Norway will be hosting several Jamhuri Day parties at different addresses in the major cities of Norway. Needless to mention, the Oslo case is more complicated since there are several Kenyans in the city and similarly there will be hosted several parties to celebrate the same day in the same city. It is disheartening to note how complicated the contours of the Kenyan community are in the capital city of Norway. Despite having several organizations and equally many attempts to organize the masses, Kenyans in Oslo are still struggling to find a common ground to table their views at a national level.

I recently attended a workshop held at Blindern where the main agenda was to find a pavement to enable members of our motherland to tender their goals and agenda for a united front. There was however more talk of a conference to be held in Nairobi which according to my understanding had nothing to do with the association that was to be discussed. It seemed to me that some of the new Norway - Kenyan leaders were simply looking for loopholes to use the name of the association to facilitate a platform where they would then appear as a uniting factor. It is embarrassing to be part of a team when you deem the future of a united front only to be served the same old tricks of using and dumping.

Some of the newly selected leaders made it sound like they had a hidden agenda and that they were ready to offer all that was available to achieve their unclear goals, a very disturbing approach to solving a demanding situation. Let me sum up this part by saying that Kenyans in Norway have to first manage and deal with the issues at hand before even imagining that they will end up with a uniting welfare association.

Well, back to the crust of the matter, on Friday and Saturday this week, Kenyans in Oslo will be treated to at least five Jamhuri Day celebrations hosted by different Kenyan groups. There is one by the women, one by the established Kenyan caucus, the politically inclined, the students and a group of artists not to mention the uncountable Kenyan organizations.

I believe it is high time that Kenyans in Oslo sit down and plan a proper way forward to reduce the magnitude of differences in a bid to build a better future for the members of this great country. We have had huge gatherings where Kenyans and friends from all walks have attended without strings attached. I hope we will bring back the best in us and join hands with or without the many welfare associations.

I have received an invitation to attend the celebrations to be held at Willy’s Club, Fred Olsensgate 11, Oslo plus several others including one at the environment house on Saturday. I wonder which of these are genuine…and without any strings attached.

Here are some parts of the invitations already received:
Willy’s Bar is hosting Kenya Independence day on the 11th. December 2010. Welcome from 19:00 hours. At midnight, when the clock hits 00.00 to usher in 12th. December, the Kenyan National Anthem will be played to wish Kenya and the new Constitution well. There will be live music and a perfect mix of DJs throughout the night. Spread this good news.

A second one for the Saturday event:
Jamhuri day celebrations –slated for the 11th December 2010 will be held at the Environmental House i.e. http://www.miljohuset-g9.no/. Members will get more details pertinent to this auspicious event soon.

Yet another for Saturday 11th. December reads:
Welcome to Kenya Independence party at Sagene Hall. Doors are opening at 18:00. Food and drinks available plus lots of nice Kenyan and music from around the world. Come and enjoy the traditional dances from Kenya and Tanzania.

And as if those were not enough, the events slated for Friday 10th. December are:
You are invited to Kenya’s Independence Day celebrations in Oslo. Please reply to this message to confirm your attendance and get the details of the party. Two Kenyan Ministers will be attending. This will be the party of the year, come one, come all.

Yet another one for Friday 10th. December reads:
Kenyan women are organizing this year’s Independence Day celebrations in Oslo…….

And one more for 10th. December reads: The Association of Kenyans in Norway, has the pleasure to invite all Kenyans and other well-wishers (those who have Kenya in their hearts) from all walks of life; on this auspicious occasion as Kenya commemorates its 47th Independence Day. Details pertinent to the material day are as follows: DATE: Friday, 10th December 2010. TIME: Friday 7:00pm –Saturday 3:00 am.

I will however be attending another Kenyan party in Stockholm where I am for the weekend. I hope to read from the parties in Oslo and hope KiN will be available at most if not all of them to file a report. I hope to finalise and post a report of the celebrations hosted by the Kenyan Embassy in Stockholm.

All in all, Happy Jamhuri Day 2010!!

WikiLeak's Storm in Kenya

The wikileak's dossier on Kenya appears to be having an impact on the diplomatic relations between Kenya and the United States. The government however says officials of the United States administration have apologised to Kenya over the anticipated damaging wikileaks cables touching on Kenya. Us ambassador Michael Rannerberger has downplayed the issue saying it will not put a strain on the relationship between the two countries. And as Pamela Asigi reports, the government say the dossier is not a true representation of Kenya.

The government is now accusing the American embassy in Nairobi of working hard to create despondency following reports that the US government does not think very highly of Kenyan leaders. Government spokesman Dr. Alfred Mutua says the reports which appeared in leaked documents published by wikileaks, indicate that briefings by the US ambassador to Kenya, Michael Ranneberger, paint a very gloomy picture for Kenya in as far as governance is concerned.
